Day 9 A Persona Poem

The NaPoWriMo recommended poems from Rita Dove and Robert Browning are wonderful examples for today's prompt, and I especially loved the trio from Bob Hicok here: Poemeleon. I'm still working on some other persona projects, but here's a fragment I came up with today. One of the images in my poem comes from the film Biutiful, directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñnarrítu and starring Javier Bardem.

Hover, Helpless

I stay near the ceiling at first, see how gravity gives up the ghost.
Saw it in a Spanish movie once -- they stayed up there, after, stuck
like backwards bugs, faces panicked or resigned; then they disappeared
next time the leading man, who had the gift of sight, looked up.

The phone. Her younger sister, good kid, checking. Leaves a message.
Outside, a mockingbird sings electricity. We both know the tune.

She sits most nights at the kitchen table. The dark pulls itself to her,
falls into her wine glass, over the Chinese take-out she doesn’t eat.
Her eyes fill with no light. She, beyond all comfort, even, now, mine.
