Day 1 Firsts

Today's prompt was to begin a poem with a first line from another poem.  I live in Tennessee, am trying to get over a fear of snakes, and came up with this:

Snakes in a Dream with Wallace Stevens

I placed a jar in Tennessee
and filled it there with hair and clay.
It made the whistling, grizzling air
give up and moan.

The snakes it summoned curled inside
to sleep awhile and dream of mice.
The jar was bright against the dirt,
and blue, and courting light and air.

They took dominion. Everywhere --
the jar and quiet snakes.
They did not have another place
like any dream in Tennessee.
